The Good & The Unfortunate

The Good Designs & The Unfortunate Ones

A good business card design looks very similar to the one above. The business card above has a great color scheme going to attract the eye. The business card had great contrast from black background to white text and the other side has a red background to white text. The black background shows the most important thing on the business card, which is his name. Many times people don't pay attention to the name on a business card and they head straight to the information and forget they need to know WHO they're speaking with. The red side of the card shows all the listed contact information,  address, phone, social media accounts, and email. Every way to possibly reach this person is on the card and on the red side which looks like it symbolizes "urgency". The font on the card repeats for the body copy (the contact info) and the font for the name on the black side is different and larger to symbolize that as a heading or "title". This design is professionally appealing to the eye for a business card. On the other hand this business card pretty much has the complete opposite of the above card. This business car is too bland, with no background color pop or anything its just a name on a cream colored card with very limited information as well. The contrast is boring because its the typical black words to white or "off white" background so it looks regular like every other boring sheet of paper and words we see daily. ON this design of business card there's just a name and a title on there and very small at the bottom is information. The information line does swap color and have an olive green background and the words continue as white. This design could use more color, it could use different formatting as well because it looks like a card with just names. This business card looks more like a work name tag. The font could've been better chosen if the card design and background was going to be so bland.

Now we move into Brochures. Here we have a brochure packed with information as they should be, but this one looks over packed with the information. The words look way too close together, the fonts change a little bit as you look through the brochure, but theres no size change in the fonts indicating a change from body to heading text. Also the color contrast in the flyer is very off. This is a light background with too many colors of text on it which makes it difficult to read and understand which text differs from others. The fonts are already too different on the page to understand if any text was more important or stood out more than the others. On the other hand the cruise brochure gives a stunning background for the viewers to look at while reading the text. The text is all black so you'll focus on it as you imagine yourself on the beautiful beach like the people in the background go the brochure. The text identifies itself as "heading" or "subheading" and body text because of the change in font size but not a huge change in front. The brochure split into two parts, which helps the reader see the difference between the title page where you can see a large image of the people and the other side with much smaller text, the background fades and just shows the beach. Each section of text demonstrates what's to be talked about because theres a headline. This design is elite!

Lastly, theres the flyer designs. Both flyers in particular come from two groups on campus at Buffalo State College. The first particular flyer design is a good example of what not to do on a flyer. This flyer gives a title which is is different colors and makes no sense. The background of the flyer is red which is a very poor choice when the font is so many different colors. A lot of the important information is in a dark pink which isn't visible on a bright red background. This makes the viewer have to struggle to see it.  You can't really tell who's giving the event and due to the colors I can't see the location or time it's given. The text fonts never repeat and repetition is needed in a flyer to know body copy from headings and titles. The design is poor enough to wonder was this made as a joke or to actually promote. On the other hand there's a flyer from a different organization that has a great design. The flyer follows the them of the title of the event. The color contrast on the flyer is great because the the background is white but eh center of the flyer has bright pink lines. The "WHO" as in who's giving the event is at the top with their logos, the title id in the center in between the two people which is a unique spot. The location, date, and time are all at the bottom altogether. Different color text from the "who" so you know this is different information you need to know.
