Brochure Ideas...

Brochures are the best way to gain insight to a place, thing, or organization. They give you a view that allows you to feel like you’re there and can sometimes definitely persuade you to do something. Brochures can also be very informative and give you all the information you’ll need to know before indulging in something. For this brochure project I’m thinking of different organizations and current issues going on in the world affecting my generations. Very current issue in the black community is police brutality. With the deaths of so many young boys in the past couple years, this could be an underlining theme. The brochures for this class will most likely be heavily informative when done on organizations.
For one of my brochures I want to do it on the The Alvin Ailey Dance Company and exhibit how amazing African American ballet dancers used dance as their key to expression. Dance was not just them expressing themselves but making a serious statement every time they hit a position or moved a muscle. The Alvin Ailey Dance Company has done a lot for the black community by placing a school in the Manhattan area and letting students apply to attend different programs. They split the programs up seasonal or you could apply to attend the rigorous dance school as a dance major preparing for high school and college. However, there are also summer camps placed in local public schools with Alvin Ailey Dance School staff taking in kids to teach them different types of dance. That is extremely productive and innovative because that’s where students like me who couldn’t afford The Alvin Ailey Dance School would go. The summer camp was free, while the dance school costed lots of money. My brochure would explain the rise of the school, the requirements to attend, the perks of attendance, and what the school offers and the same for the summer camp. We’ll also have the scholarships given to go to the Alvin Ailey Dance School, and lastly it’s connection with the Dance School Of Harlem.
Another brochure idea I have is doing a brochure on my school’s current organization that I’m a part of. The Caribbean Students Organization is an organization that spreads awareness of the Caribbean culture on campus and I’m the Vice President of the organization. In the brochure I would explain when the organization was founded and where and then I would explain the executive board and its positions. The Caribbean Students Organization has many different programs and community service events on campus for students to be a part of. This is how we teach and experience different things from the Caribbean as a group. For example the organization has about 10 signature programs that take place annually, and that’s something that I would go into detail about by explaining each event and it’s purpose. Each Friday of the month the organization holds a general interest meeting where the students invite the public to come and see a prepared display  of information. Whether its a powerpoint, a game, or a skit there’s always an exhibition that has a hidden lesson about the Caribbean. I’d insert pictures from different programs and explain that program and what the moral was when the programs concluded.
For my last brochure I’m thinking I could do it on Black Lives Matter organization. People know “Black Lives Matter” as a cool saying or slogan but do people really know anything about the organization? So I’m going back to my intro when I mentioned the police brutality and death of African American boys in our community. Black Lives Matter is definitely a place where that is an issue discussed and making a huge difference because the organization desires to know why are only young black boys are being killed for being innocent? Such as Trayvon Martin or Mike Brown. Then of course it’s not just the black boys but the black lives are being taken in general because we can’t forget Sandra Bland. Her death was very controversial due to the fact that she died behind bars. Unfortunately not many people in the public believe her death was a suicide, but that’s what the police would like the public to believe. In this brochure I would give the general biographical information for the organization and a picture of the founder(s). I would definitely have some of my questions asked above on the brochure and I would have pictures of these victims with their stories. I would have the mission statement and the goals the organization wishes to achieve as you get near the end of the brochure and some of it’s current accomplishments. This would possibly be one of my best brochures because there’s so much substance.
